We couldn’t serve our seniors without volunteers! If you are passionate about the seniors in your community, we’d love for you to join us as a volunteer. Seniors First does not check credit scores as part of its background check for volunteers,  However, under an interim final rule issued on September 12, 2018, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFBP) has issued a new model disclosure form that employers and background check companies are required to provide to any individual who completes a credit report consent form.


Medicare Benefits Counseling Volunteer

Are you interested in a unique volunteer opportunity where you can counsel and assist individual Seniors in our community? The Virginia Insurance Counseling Assistance Program (VICAP) provides local, in-depth, and objective insurance counseling and assistance to Medicare-eligible individuals, their families, and caregivers in the state of Virginia. If you like helping others one-on-one and you want to learn more about Medicare and coverage decisions that should be made at age 65, we would love to have you as a volunteer! Seniors First offers several positions with its VICAP program; they all include training and staff support.  Watch the introduction video below and click the application to read more information or call our office at 540-551-5696.


Senior Center Positions

These positions are available at our six Senior Centers. Dates and times vary depending on Senior Center’s schedule. Please visit our Senior Center page for specific information or call our front office at (540) 635-7141.

Meals on Wheels Runners deliver hot, nutritious meals to home-bound elderly persons.  The volunteer will ride along on the van and carry the hot meals to the home of an elderly home-bound person.  Meals on Wheels runners also help load and unload the van.

Kitchen Assistants help out in the kitchen, as requested, including meal preparation, transferring of supplies and equipment between storage and work areas, help with washing pots and pans, utensils, work counter, and refrigerators. Clean floors and remove trash and garbage.  Assist in packaging home-bound meals.

Program Assistants lead programs of crafts, music, slides, movies or other entertainment or educational value.


Other Seniors First Positions

Senior Medicare Patrol distributes brochures regarding fraud and abuse to doctors’ offices, hospitals and pharmacies and participates at events to make this information available to the public.

Special Project Volunteers help with a variety of tasks including telephoning, copying materials, sorting donated items for events, helping with fundraisers, delivering items/gifts, pre-event planning, setting up for events, and/or help with ticket sales or activities. Special Project Volunteers may also serve as a photographer, taking pictures for Agency Display Boards or Newsletters or create items such as quilts, or other crafts for events.
